PARTNERS

Besides being "cool", our partners also provide rewards to teens that complete our video programme and test. Incentivising works in the business world and we believe it works to motivate teens to learn and to have an HIV test.

But our programmes are more than just "cool", they deliver real life information about HIV/AIDS. Our panel of Subject Matter Experts has spent countless hours advising us about HIV/AIDS and teens.

We'd like to invite all South African corporations to consider partnering with us. The reality is that this programme is not just another CSI project. We want businesses to get involved because this HIV crisis is not only going to impact their families, staff and customers, but also their earnings.

  • At the current rate of infection, South African teenagers have a 50% chance of contracting HIV over the course of their lives. Half of SA’s new HIV infections occur before the age of 25. Relatively modest changes in adolescent sexual behaviour could substantially curtail the HIV epidemic.
  • loveLife, South Africa’s national HIV prevention programme for youth, was launched in September 1999, by a consortium of leading SA public health organisations in partnership with a coalition of community-based organisations, the South African government, major South African media groups and private foundations.

The WCED is the official government department for all education matters pertaining to public schools and Further Education and Training colleges (FETs) in the Western Cape. The WCED recognises that HIV/AIDS requires top priority in education. It is committed to dealing with this emergency by raising awareness and disseminating knowledge about HIV and its transmission to learners and educators. It also aims to inculcate values and attitudes so that learners adopt behaviour that prevents HIV infection. Part of its strategy is to demystify the disease, tackle discrimination and support those infected and affected. Age appropriate sexuality and HIV/AIDS education is a mandatory part of the lifeskills programme in schools. Educators are being constantly trained in HIV. In its view, peer education (learner -to -learner) is a positive adjunct to curriculum-based education and has been implemented in many schools in the Western Cape.
